Tadej Pogacar piled up an eleventh win of the time on Sunday when he dropped Tom Pidcock on a trip and soloed over 30km to win the renowned Amstel Gold Race.
In the Dutch classic, the 24-year-old Slovenian from UAE Team Emirates won ahead of Ben Healy of EF Education-EasyPost from Ireland, who was disappointed. Pidcock, a British rider, held onto third place.
Pogacar will face Remco Evenepoel in a mouthwatering duel next weekend at the Liege-Bastogne-Liege. The Belgian champion will have to control the 2021 champion.
In the meantime, he takes on La Fleche Wallone in the middle of the week.
“It is a difficult race for me. “With good shape right now and a good team, we can also do well in Flèche,” Pogacar stated. “I never did well there.
Just before the climb, Pogacar had changed bikes and left the others standing where his famous climb-kick had left them.
