Paramilitaries in Sudan claim to have taken control of the presidential palace and the airport in Khartoum.

During Saturday’s escalating power struggle with the army, Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) claimed control of the presidential palace, army chief’s residence, and Khartoum international airport.

The RSF also said in a statement that they had taken over the airports in Merowe in the north and El-Obeid in the west.

 

Witnesses reported seeing shooting in cities adjacent to Khartoum, and gunfire could be heard in several areas of the city.
